On-Line Handwriting Recognition &

OVERVIEW
The advent of pen computers and PDAs has opened new possibilities in
"ubiquitous computing". However, automatic recognition of handwritten
input (HWR) is still not really optimal, and user-interfacing issues
have not settled. The NICI has been active in human handwriting movement
studies for over a decade, and has been involved in the recognition of online,
cursive connect script since 1990. The following pen-computing projects
are running:
- The UNIPEN
on-line handwriting database collection project.
- Development of software tools
for browsing and processing on-line handwriting data in the UNIPEN format
- Combining Speech and Online Handwriting Recognition (MIAMI)
- Using knowledge of online handwriting production in offline
recognition.
- Within-Writer Variability
- Between-Writer Style Variation
